🔀 Colon vs Semicolon: Rules and Examples

Colon (:)

Use to introduce a list: You need three things: paper, pen, and patience.
Use for explanation: He was late: his car broke down.

Semicolon (;)

Connects two related independent clauses without a conjunction: I have a test tomorrow; I can't go out.
Also used in complex lists: I visited Paris, France; London, UK; and Rome, Italy.

💡 Think of colon as "equals" (explanation) and semicolon as a "soft period" (connection).
