1. The Formula
Subject + am/is/are + verb-ing
Use the correct form of "to be" (am/is/are) and add -ing to the main verb!
2. -ING Spelling Rules
- Most verbs: add -ING → work → working
- Verbs ending in -E: drop -E and add -ING → make → making
- One-syllable CVC verbs: double last consonant + -ING → run → running
- Verbs ending in -IE: change IE to Y and add -ING → die → dying
3. When to Use Present Continuous
- Actions happening now: I am reading a book.
- Temporary situations: She is staying with her friend.
- Future arrangements: They are meeting tomorrow.
- Changing situations: The weather is getting warmer.
