Grammar Conditionals first conditional rules grammar

1. The Formula

IF + Present Simple, WILL + Base Verb (Infinitive)

Use present simple in the if clause and will + base verb in the result clause!

2. When to Use First Conditional

3. IF vs WHEN vs UNLESS

• If you come, I will be happy. (maybe yes, maybe no)
• When you come, I will be happy. (I am sure you will come)
• Unless you come, I will be sad. (= If you don't come)

4. Word Order

• If + present simple, will + verb.
• Will + verb + if + present simple.

You can put the "if clause" first or second. The meaning is the same!

⚠️ Important Rules:
1. NEVER use "will" in the if clause!
2. Use present simple in the if clause
3. Use "will + base verb" in the result clause
