📖 Inverted Conditionals Rules: Removing 'If' with Inversion

Rule 1: Third Conditional (past unreal)

Remove 'if' → move 'had' to front → rest same.
If I had seen → Had I seen.
Negative: If I had not seen → Had I not seen / Hadn't I seen.

Rule 2: Second Conditional (present unreal)

Remove 'if' → move 'were' to front. Use 'were' for all subjects.
If I were you → Were I you. If she were rich → Were she rich.
With infinitive: If I were to win → Were I to win.

Rule 3: First Conditional (real possibility with 'should')

Only invert first conditional with 'should' (formal condition).
If you should need → Should you need. If she should call → Should she call.

Important Notes

- Never invert conditionals with 'unless' or 'provided that'.
- Inversion is formal; use in writing, not casual speech.
- The main clause does not change.
- Punctuation: comma between clauses optional.
